Letter From The President

It’s hard to believe the Holidays are fast approaching.  But here we are nearing the end of 2021 and hopefully heading towards a pre-COVID normal in 2022.  The New Class Reception was a big success with lots of great auction items, thank you to all that came out and donated.  Another big thank you to Network for allowing us to use their new space!  It was nice to see so many friends in one room.

The board is busy planning the Annual Christmas Party.  With a fun idea to help support local businesses in Richardson.  Be on the lookout for the invitation.  We hope to see you there.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season!

We encourage you to bring a dish from a local Richardson restaurant and spread some holiday cheer!

Richardson Youth Leadership is up and running in-person for 2021.  City Government Day was on October 20th at the Richardson Civic Center and featured conversations with Council members Jennifer Justice, Arefin Shamsul, City Manager Dan Johnson and Mayor Paul Voelker. Students experienced a hands-on project led by professionals from the city’s Parks and Recreation department, led by director Lori Smeby.

Our annual leadership launch session was held Nov. 13th at Stony Ranch, bringing together the RYL students and Leadership on the Move facilitators led by “Dizzy Dick” and Lura Hammond.

Next up will be Education Day at University of Texas at Dallas in December. RYL is a program of LRAA, in collaboration with the Richardson Independent School District.

Calling All Volunteers!

Do you need help getting into the Holiday Spirit?  We have several opportunities for you!

Richardson’s 49th Annual Christmas Parade is scheduled to be held Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 9:00 AM. This year the parade will be on the West Side starting at Richardson High School, heading North on Coit Rd and ending at Pearce High School.  If you are interested in volunteering to help with the Parade either at Staging or as a Parade Marshall, sign up here: https://cityofrichardson1.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=57068.

Another way to get in the Holiday Spirit, is to volunteer to help at Santa’s Village for Pre-School day.  We are looking for volunteers from 8a-12n on Friday December 10th.  What a great way to see the magic of the season thru the eyes of a preschooler.  If you are interested in volunteering please sign up here: https://cityofrichardson1.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=57984

Network has a great need for volunteers in their Clothing Closet. Recently, it has become difficult to keep the department open for the entirety of their business hours with so few volunteers. The work is fun! They would love to have groups come in and help as well, so if you know anyone looking for service hours or who wants to give back to the community, please let them know!   To volunteer in the clothing closet, please contact our Volunteer Manager Caroline Wold at cwold@thenetwork.org or call 972-234-8880 ext. 126.
