Presidents Message

Hello LRAA,

As your new president, it is my honor to represent you and the nearly four decades of Leadership Richardson (LR) graduates. The presidents before me have kept the Leadership Richardson Alumni Association (LRAA) the trusted source of fun, fellowship, and professional development for our committed community leaders. This year will be no exception!

I would like to provide a brief highlight of your upcoming 2023-2024 LRAA experience, and I hope you will find the opportunity to connect with us soon:

  • New Logo and Merchandise - the new LRAA logo pays tribute to the graduates of LR who have reached their pinnacle and remain committed to the five pillars of leadership, and it can be found on nametags, polos, hats, mugs, and more! Check out our website to make your purchase!
  • New Committees – the work of LRAA is bigger than your Board of Directors, and as a result, we are asking for help. Choose your own place to make a difference: Richardson Youth Leadership (RYL), Fundraising, Social, Marketing, and Leadership Development!
  • New Social Happy Hours – when the current LR class is not in session, LRAA will fill in the gaps and plan a monthly happy hour! Our first two socials were very well attended and at new Richardson hotspots – Old 75 Beer Garden and Mad Hatter Neighborhood Pub! Join us at the next one on August 24 th at CafĂ© Gecko!
  • New Leadership Development Series – to keep our alums connected, we will be hosting six Leadership Development sessions this year, alternating between morning and evening programs. Our first session will be on September 21 st at 7 AM at The Drawing Board, and our guest speaker will be RISD Superintendent Tabitha Branum.

Thanks again for your support of this great organization. Please encourage your classmates to come back, join their association, and get involved! As we celebrate the newest class of LR39, it is a great time to be a member of LRAA! Our mission is to positively impact our community by connecting and inspiring members in leadership!

These opportunities for connection continue with some great events coming up – so read below and see what fits into your schedule and make some time to spend time with your fellow alumni.

We are also looking forward to the Class XXXIX New Class Reception – so if you or someone you know would like to get involved with the Alumni Association board please connect with us via email, phone, Facebook, LinkedIn, carrier pigeon … whatever works for you! We would love to find a role for all who wish to get involved.

Also – please go check out our updated website www.lralumni.com and see our changes. We will continue updating and adding content – but we are very exciting about each of you having access to connect easier than ever!

As we all are going through the hustle and bustle of wrapping up summer plans, spending long hours at work, and/or getting ready for back to school it is good for us to still take time to inspire those around us. I found this quote and it stood out to me so I figured I would share. I hope I see you all at our next Happy Hour!

Lovable Leslie Rains

Purpose of RYL

Richardson Youth Leadership is a program that fosters leadership skills for high school juniors attending an RISD high school, PISD high school and live in Richardson, or non-public high school and live in Richardson.

During a period of nine months, participants spend a half-day each month at various sites in the Richardson area learning about their community through activities designed to develop leadership and teamwork skills. Session topics include general leadership and ropes course training, as well as specific topics such as business, city government, personal branding, and public safety.

How Can I Help?
